Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre is wheelchair, walkers and pram accessible. A permanent accessibility ramp is located at the front of the Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre for easy access into the building and there is also a lift that provides access to the other floors.

Public Transport

There are several ways to get here via public transport. Train: Mernda Line Stop: Northcote Station (10 minute walk) Tram Route: 86 Stop: 31 Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre/ High Street, stop number 31 this is an accessible tram stop and is right outside the front of the venue. Bus – 552 Stop: Northcote Plaza, 508 Stop: Separation Street (Crn High St), 567 Stop: Mitchell Street (Crn High St) The buses 250 and 251 drop people off at the bottom of the hill and you can walk up. Parking

There are two sets of accessible car spaces around the Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre- one on James Street near the corner of High Street, and one on Westbourne Grove, near the corner of High Street. Transport and Parking Map Top

Speakeasy Program

We offer the following access services for the majority of our Speakeasy programmed shows. Please see specific show information for services available. Access Tickets Access ticket prices are available for all show for those who identify as living with a disability, are deaf or low hearing. These tickets are available at a discounted rate of $20 with the promotional code: ACCESS. There are a limited amount of tickets per season. This promotional code is applicable to any accessible performance as part of the Speakeasy season. Auslan Interpreted Performance Auslan is an official language generally used by people who have low hearing or are deaf. Interpreters will be available to translate performances in Speakeasy seasons. Audio Description An audio described performance is for those who are blind or have low vision who wear headphones throughout the performance and are described the physical detail of what is happening on stage. The describer will usually be situated outside of the theatre and will view what’s happening on stage via a live camera set up or one way glass wall. Relaxed Performance A relaxed performance is designed to welcome visitors with disability or sensory sensitivities, their friends and families to the theatre. It aims to break down barriers of a theatre show to allow for a diverse range of people to engage. Loud noises, bright lights, unclear rules and protocols, and not being confident in going to the theatre can all be detractors to those who would like to come along. Top

Loading and Drop-offs

For pick ups and drop-offs, patrons can find street parking in James Street or Westbourne Grove. Business vehicles can use the Loading Zone in Westbourne Grove. Upon request, the venue can provide access onto the driveway abutting our Civic Square for loading. Please notify staff at reception of required access. The pathway in the Civic Square is not a car space and vehicles must be moved after uploading/pickup. Top

Public Toilets

Available within the Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre across from the Reception desk. Toilets are also available on the Ground Floor (near Studio 1) and the First Floor only during event bookings. Top

Accessible Toilets

Accessible toilets are available on the Ground Floor of Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre (opposite Main Reception through the glass doors and Studio 1 located in the West Wing). Top

Baby Change Room

Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre provides a baby change room, located on the Ground Floor (next to the lift). Top

Hearing System

Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre Studios 1 and 2 are equipped with a Phonic Ear Hearing Augmentation System that complies with Australian Standard 1428 and provides assistance to both people with hearing aids, and people with hearing loss who do not wear hearing aids. Please specify when you are booking tickets if you would like to use the hearing loop. Our friendly staff can assist you with how to use this system. Top

Companion Card

We accept the companion card. The Companion Card is for people with a significant permanent disability, who always need a companion to provide attendant care type support in order to participate at most available community venues and activities. Please notify Box Office when you book your tickets that you have a companion card. For more information see the Companion Card Website. Top

RECHARGE Scheme

The RECHARGE scheme is a MetroAccess Initiative in partnership with local businesses and Mobility Aids Australia Pty Ltd. The RECHARGE scheme is a simple and effective means of ensuring that people who use an electric scooter or wheelchair can travel without the fear of being stranded by a flat battery. Northcote Town Hall is able to provide patrons with these facilities. Please ask at reception for assistance.
