The House of Bernarda Alba
Tuesday, 16 March 2010
to Sunday, 21 March 2010
Presented by Alterior Motive Theatre Company.
Sweltering amid the oppressive heat of rural Spain stands The House of Bernarda Alba. Within it's walls wait her five adult girls, locked inside and condemned by their tyrannical mother to 8 years of mourning over the death of their father. But Bernarda is a prisoner too. A prisoner of her grief, her pride and her determination to maintain honour. Outside in the distance, the men-folk work and sing and talk. Bernarda tries desperately to keep them at bay, but it is only a matter of time before tempers flare and the rope snaps... Regarded by many as Lorca's best play, The House of Barnarda Alba is a powerful tale of passion and frustration. With an entirely female cast Alterior Motive present a visually stunning and proudly Spanish representation of a true masterpiece.
