Betrayal by Harold Pinter
Wednesday, 15 November 2017
to Sunday, 19 November 2017
Love, Lust. Trust...Infidelity
Emma is married to Robert. But for seven years, she’s been having an affair with Jerry, Robert’s best friend.
Betrayal begins at the end of the affair, and pursues an enthralling journey to its very beginnings. As memory reels backwards towards the moment the affair started, the lies tangle into a web of deception, and betrayal begets betrayal. Of the countless eternal love triangles written for the stage, few have matched Nobel Prize-winner Harold Pinter’s gripping depiction of infidelity – as intricate as a spy novel with its cross and double cross. AVID & Tangled Web Theatre Productions unite in their production of Pinter’s arresting relationship drama, directed by Bruce Cochrane.
Inspired by Pinter's clandestine extramarital affair with BBC Television presenter Joan Bakewell, which spanned seven years, from 1962 to 1969, the plot of Betrayal integrates different permutations of betrayal relating to a seven-year affair involving a married couple and their 'close friend'.
AVID in collaboration with Tangled Web Theatre Productions are proud to bring this timeless, intricate work to the stage this November.
